Dr. Sung Yoon (Piano)
Dr. Sung Yoon is a winner of a capital award in Performing Art (CAPA). While pursuing her Doctoral degree in Piano Performance at UMCP, she taught piano classes at Montgomery college and Prince George college as a faculty member. Her passion for performing and teaching led her to perform piano in many recital halls, such as Millennium Concert Hall at the John F. Kennedy Center, Goodwin Concert Hall and Miriam A. Friedberg Hall at Peabody Conservatory, Ulrich and Gilden Horn Recital Hall at UMCP, and etc. She also accompanied and coached pre-college level instrumentalists for their competitions, juries, lessons and master classes with National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) members and concerts at the John F. Kennedy Center.
Dr. Jie Hyue Kim (Violin)
Dr. Jie Hyue Kim, a native of Daejeon, South Korea, began her violin studies at the age of eight. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Catholic University of America and a Master of Arts degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, CUNY, studying under Daniel Phillips of the renowned Orion Quartet.
An accomplished orchestral musician, Dr. Kim has served as concertmaster of university symphony and chamber orchestras and won the Queens College Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2009. She has also performed as principal violist with the Queens College Orchestra and the Ureuk Symphony Orchestra in New York.
As a soloist, she has appeared with the NOVA Philharmonic, Queensboro Symphony Orchestra, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Charles Washington Symphony Orchestra and Loudoun Symphony Orchestra. Her festival experience includes performances at the AIMS Festival in Graz, Austria, the Blue Ridge Music Festival, and the Castleton Music Festival under the direction of Maestro Lorin Maazel.
Since 2010, Dr. Kim has been a member of the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, where she currently serves as concertmaster. She also holds the position of concertmaster with the National String Symphonia in Maryland. In addition to her performing career, she has been teaching violin and viola at Elizabethtown College since 2024.
Dr. Carolyn Hyun Ha Oh (Flute)
Praised for her “uniquely subtle gradation of tone,” Carolyn Hyun Ha Oh, former principal flutist of the Washington Symphony Orchestra, enjoys a versatile career as a performer and educator in the Washington DC area. She received her degrees in flute performance from the Peabody Conservatory (BM), Indiana University (MM) and the Catholic University of America (DMA). Her principal teachers include Vanita Jones, Thomas Robertello and Jacques Zoon, with additional coachings with the legendary Julius Baker, former principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic.
As a soloist, she has toured the U.S., England and South Africa with the New England Symphonic Ensemble. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Washington Symphony Orchestra, Avanti Orchestra of the Friday Morning Music Club, Montgomery College Orchestra and the Southeastern Music Center Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, she has played principal flute at Carnegie Hall under the baton of John Rutter, as well as with the Washington Summer Opera Orchestra and the Washington Korean Symphony Orchestra, among others. She has also performed with the Chamber Orchestra of America, The Landon Symphonette and the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra at venues such as the Kennedy Center, George Mason Center for the Arts, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and Strathmore.
A prize winner of the Flute Society of Washington’s Young Artist Competition, Dr. Oh was a recipient of several awards and prizes, including the 2 Yamaha Prizes at the Julius Baker International Master Classes. An active soloist and chamber musician, Dr. Oh’s playing is featured on the CD, “Chamber Music with Guitar,” with guitarist Phil Mathieu, which won the 2009 WAMMIE for best Classical recording.
A passionate educator, Dr. Oh is an adjunct music professor of Montgomery College and has been a former faculty member of the Washington Adventist University. She also serves as director of the MCYO (Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras) Junior and Senior Flute Choirs and is an artistic advisor for YMIC (Young Musicians Inspiring Change). She serves as an adjudicator for festivals and competitions and maintains an active private studio. Her students regularly place in local and national competitions as well as winning positions in MCYO, PVYO, AYPO, All-County, All-State, All-Eastern, and All-National ensembles.
Carolyn is a founder and director of Concert Artists International, whose mission is to create world class performance opportunities for deserving musicians (www.concertartistsinternational.com). She is currently enrolled in the “Transformational Teachers Training Program'' to better assist her students to realize their full potential.
