Ear Training

  1. Scales: Identify the scales you hear.  Major, minor (all 3 types), chromatic, whole tone, pentatonic and blues scales will be presented.

  2. Triads: Identify the triads you hear.  Major, minor, augmented and diminished triads in root position, first inversion and second inversion will be presented.  You must identify the inversions.

  3. Seventh chords: Identify the seventh chords you hear.  Mm, mm, and diminished chords will be presented in root position.

  4. Intervals: Identify the intervals you hear by number and quality (M, m, P, tt).  All intervals will be played either ascending OR descending.

  5. Melodic dictation: Complete the musical phrase.  The key will be given, but the student must notate the correct key signature.  Time signature, bar lines and first note will be given.  All rhythmic values up to sixteenth notes and artificial groupings up to quintuplets will be presented.
